They do not make art like this anymore. Classic colors, classic theme – classic piece of art.

I can’t figure out what a ‘retronomatopoeia’ is. Neither the meaning. Perhaps, it has something to do with some big event in that era. Or, it has no meaning, I guess. I’m always interested in artworks. Yet, I can’t figure out their meanings. Could you please tell about it?

Reminds me of some old comics I used to find in my grandparents attic when I was a kid. Can’t figure out what the bottom part of the letter ‘U’ is meant to be on this but interesting none the less.

woah. new learning. this is my word for the day : “retronomatopoiea”. This sounds cool. It’s very reminiscent of the old comic books i have when i was a child, they’re full of retronomatopoiea, which gives it a slight touch of reality.
cheers!

This picture brings back memories of when the Sunday newspaper really cared about the comic strips that they published instead of now when they try to skimp on the quality and publish them as cheaply as possible. I really used to look forward to Calvin and Hobbes and I guess my current favorite is Pearls Before Swine. I just wish that they would give it more space instead of trying to squeeze everything into a couple of pages.
Thanks for the pic.

I guess it dates me – I remember seeing these types of comics when I was little. And comic strips were much the same.
It just is not the same anymore, I rarely read the comic strips any more. Really have not been that engaged in comics since Calvin and Hobbes.

Wow, nice retro comics are hard to find these days. So much better than the slick stuff you get these days in my opinion. In response to the other comments, I think anyone looking at these pictures and loving them is dating themselves lol. Modern kids wouldn’t “get” just how cool they are.

While not quite as retro, I always thought the Batman TV series with Adam West had great onomatopoeiac “Ka Blams” and “Pows”, etc. It was great TV.

Well this is nice to see. So much can be said with a word or two and some action. As Tracey said above, Batman did much the same.

Well, this is a nice collection from retro comic sounds.
Looking back at the old cartoon character graphics, I love reading a comic book onomatopoeia.

Boy this brings back some memories. I have gotten too busy for comics/funny papers these days but they were good entertainment back then.

I wish they would bring back comics like this. They were simple but very entertaining. And there was quite a bit of primary colors used, so it always had a lot of visual appeal.

I would say wish I could bring back these comics but that would mean no more Xbox or PS3 lol.
