The evolution of websites

Even if the Internet is still a teenager, we can have a look back at the last decade and see how much (and how little) some things have changed.

You can see how Apple has kept the structure of showing their products, only now it’s all hi tech and super-cool!

Yahoo’s case is a great example of how designers started working on the Internet: a decade ago, sites like Yahoo were fully ‘designed’ by techies, who focused on the code rather than the visuals.

We can sure except things to keep getting better and better as time goes by, and be prepared to look back into the coolest contemporary site, and saying ‘that’s awful! So ‘08!’

Nice post! And thanks for the trackback to wakeuplater. I certainly share your enthusiasm about how the Web has progressed over the past ten years.

I guess the good thing about the Web nowadays is that we are bringing code AND visuals together in the best possible way, with Web Standards as the basis for development. And we’re learning how to do it really well, too.

The Apple website is a good example of best practices; the content is well-organized, the technology that it employs is scalable and it’s been designed to work properly across most browsers. Here’s to the next ten years.

    *cheers*
