MSN

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

As promised, here’s the MSN advertising campaign.
If this doesn’t show the power of a great logo, I don’t know what does.

Here’s some culture for you all: ever wondered what MSN means?
I’ve heard many versions:

Man Specimen: Nerd
Male Standing Nude
Mega Shifty Ninja
MegaMan’s So Neat

But the real one is MicroSoft Network ;)

ad
‘Just good milk’

Not much to say on this one: clear idea, and well expressed. My only complain would be that the photography and the whole design could be much better.

New Logo quiz!
Which company uses this as its logo?

So easy!

When someone finds out I’ll post one great campaign by this company!

Mini Cooper

Agency: Jung von Matt - Limmat Werbeagentur AG, Switzerland

How many clowns can you fit inside a Mini Cooper? :P
Well, according to this great guerrilla marketing campaign in Switzerland, quite a lot!

Comparing this one to the previous ad, it has a few advantages, but they are key things to have in mind:
How many people would see the Fiat advertisement on the plane? Five? maybe 20 per day if it’s a really busy airplane?
Now how many would see the Mini Cooper one? Thousands! That’s for sure, and even much more if it’s placed in the right part of the city.
Despite being seen by much more people, I still feel the Fiat Idea ad is more bothering than this one.
What’s the advantage on the previous one? There might be many (like the design, etc) but I think the clue here is the target: a person on a plane has a particular economic situation, and that’s probably who Fiat wants to sell the product to.
I think Mini Cooper advertisers didn’t consider this, as people traveling on the subways may or may not be in a particular economic situation.

‘Fiat Idea’

I gotta admit, this is a great idea, but isn’t it a bit too bothering?

I mean, when you travel on a plane you don’t want to be bothered, that’s for sure: you want to relax and enjoy the flight. Plus, I’m sure if you get that seat and you don’t like having an ad right next to you, you’ll complain with the airline. But then again, in order to advertise a product, you need to bother people a bit: the question is which is the limit!

Still nobody has found out this Logo quiz:

Anyone? Need clues?
